The first time you speak
Before your first reply, your browser asks to use the microphone. Choose Allow. Dear Lingo uses it only so the character can hear you during an episode. Your voice and privacy explains how your voice is handled.
If you tapped Don’t Allow
- Safari on iPhone or iPad: tap the page menu button beside the address, choose Website Settings, then set Microphone to Allow.
- Safari on a Mac: choose Safari › Settings for dearlingo.com, then set Microphone to Allow.
- Chrome or Edge on a computer: click the icon to the left of the address, turn Microphone on and reload the page.
- Chrome on Android: tap the icon to the left of the address, choose Permissions, then allow Microphone.
If the character still can’t hear you
- Check that your device lets the browser use the microphone. On a Mac or Windows computer, look under Privacy in your system settings.
- Close other apps that might be using the microphone, such as a video call.
- If you use headphones or an external microphone, make sure it’s the one selected.
- Reload the page and try the episode again.
