Frequently asked questions.

The basics

What is Dear Lingo?

A speaking series where you’re the main character. Each episode puts you in an everyday moment, like ordering at a café or checking into a hotel, and you say your lines out loud to a patient character.

I’m a complete beginner. Is that OK?

Yes. That’s who Dear Lingo is for. Every episode starts with a goal in English, and a hint gives you the next phrase whenever you need it.

Do I really have to speak out loud?

Yes, and that’s the point. You practice in private, at your own pace, so by the time you say it for real, you’ve said it before.

How long is an episode?

About three to five minutes, so one fits easily into a coffee break.

Will I become fluent?

We don’t promise fluency or a deadline. Dear Lingo gives you real conversations to practice until they feel natural, and it works well alongside a class or a teacher.

Who is Dear Lingo for?

Adults aged 18 and over. There are no children’s accounts or family plans. Who it’s for.

Episodes and speaking

Which episodes are included?

Season one has five: a café, a market, a hotel, finding your way and a friendly chat. Replay any of them as often as you like.

What if I get stuck?

Ask for a hint. You’ll get a nudge or a phrase to try. There’s no score and no fail screen. How hints work.

Can I see the words in English?

Yes. Captions show every line, and the English is one tap away.

What if the character misunderstands me?

It happens, just as it does in real life. Try a shorter phrase, check the caption or take a hint.

Is Rosa a real person?

No. Rosa and the other characters are fictional AI characters. They’re patient, they never rush you and they’re always happy to hear you try again.

Can I type instead of speaking?

No. Dear Lingo is built for speaking, with captions and hints to help. If speaking or hearing is difficult for you, read about accessibility first.

Languages

Which languages can I learn?

Spanish from Spain, French, Italian, European Portuguese and German. Each has its own city and host: Rosa in Madrid, Camille in Paris, Giulia in Rome, Inês in Lisbon and Lena in Berlin.

Does one membership cover every language?

Yes. Both plans include all five languages, each its own series, and you can switch whenever you like. Switch languages.

Plans and billing

What does it cost?

$14.99 a month, or $99.99 a year, which works out to $8.33 a month. Both plans include everything. Compare plans.

How does the free trial work?

The annual plan starts with 7 days free. You’ll need a card, and we remind you 3 days before the trial ends. Cancel before then and you pay nothing. Trial details.

How do I cancel?

From Membership in your account, or simply email us. You keep access until the end of the period you’ve paid for. How to cancel.

Can I get a refund?
